The willingness of her paramour to “sell her back” indicates quite poetically that the apparent love of the world and of all false lovers is not real love at all. He brought the unsquandered treasure of a young man's purity, for Hosea … He could not give her up. Gomer was part of a soft, easy going life of her time, but Hosea brought much to this marriage. But, since they had earned it for themselves, God was also prepared to punish the people of Israel for their sins (Hosea 9:7; Romans 6:23).
